Gotta start the post off with a prototypical picture of paris everyone would expect. Because later many of the pictures will be of random people walking around and interacting and less common buildings.
While of course I’ll throw in the Notre Dame and so forth.

Founding a town along a large river means there’ll be lots of boats, boaters and of course bridges.

Los Llanos is the largest and busiest town on the island with a population of just over 20,000. There are many modern buildings but the traffic-free centre and surrounding side streets still retain their old character. – www.islalapalma.com

Yet another day in Santa Cruz de la Palma on the island of La Palma part of the Canary Islands which are of course part of Spain, off the coast of Africa.
(Above) This guy was a blast to take picture of, speaks volumes about the place.

This is the hilly Santa Cruz de la Palma, perhaps not the typical volcano or ocean view, but this is life on the island for the inhabitants that see this kind of view every day.

Fun to see a street performer in a small city… usually it’s only in the big time cities in the busiest of locations.

I thought it was an awesome idea to put the restaurant menu on a chalk-like-board on the outside of the restaurant like this.

The last post was some pictures while walking around mostly the inner portion of the small city.
This day I went down to the water front and did some sunrise pictures and then some more pictures downtown during the evening.
Since we already went over the city itself in the last post I’ll just talk about pictures more than the places.
(Above) A quaint road running along some ocean view property (Below) what they get to view

Nice little sunrise greated me as I went down to the nice bouldery beach… haha.
On a side note I did see a couple of sand beaches on the other side of the island… mostly black sand.
So while the island is beautiful it’s not your typical lay on the beach get-a-away vacation island.

Santa Cruz de la Palma is the main city on the island of La Palma which is part of the Canary Islands. By main city I mean the most well known and the one with the airport closest to it. Llanos is the larger city.
The city is about 18k people if that helps give an idea
Canary Islands are part of Spain but are more closely located off the coast of Africa… they are volcanic islands.
In proceeding posts we’ll focus on the main volcano on the island of La Palma.
However on this day we flew in and I simply took a couple of hours out to walk around the small city and take some pictures of my first impressions.
This post will give a good feel of the look and personality of the city of Santa Cruz de la Palma.
Particularly the houses and roads in the city.
More info on the city on Wikipedia – Also check out this old small guide with some pics -

Can we say scenic (above)
This was the view from the place we were staying and the window was one of the many windows found around town.

(Above) This will show much of the city (island) is built on hills, it being a small volcanic island and all.

(Above) a couple of my favorite street scenes from the walk around.
Note the material of the ground on the left.

Perfect blend of the small quaint colorful city and the sporty colorful car.

I suppose it’s not the best picture to envision the city… but I liked it so I put it on anyway… I zoomed in while taking the picture.
Which reminds me 4yrs ago on this trip I shot primarily with an 18-200vr lens I got just prior to the trip.
I enjoyed the lens but prefer the lenses I have now days much more.

This is the Plaza de Cervantes in Alcala de Hernares.
yes that’s the same Cervantes that wrote Don Quixote and yes people go to visit the house and yes there’s a statue of Don Quixote and Pancho Sanza
Like usual take a look at what Wikipedia says about the location: here’s a snippet (below)
Alcalá de Henares, meaning Citadel on the river Henares, is a Spanish city, whose historical centre is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, and one of the first bishoprics founded in Spain. Located in the Autonomous Community of Madrid, 35 km northeast of the city of Madrid, at a height of 588 metres (1929 ft) above sea level, it has a population of around 200,000, the second largest of the region after the Spanish capital itself. The city is generally known simply as “Alcalá“, but “de Henares” is often appended to differentiate it from a dozen cities sharing the name Alcalá

The plaza is a very nice place, beautiful gardens and planty of white storks on the towers in the area. (Above)
