RECAP
On the 4th day of the trip we did a day trip to Segovia Spain. It’s touted as a great day trip from Madrid and that’s exactly what we did.
On the Drive in (Below)

Speaking of driving this was one of the more “Exciting” driving experiences as I went through these tiny roads with barely any room on either side of the car. I wondered if the rest of my trip would be like this and how often I would get stuck with no room at all to get by. Turns out only once weeks later did I actually not fit somewhere. (Below)

Segovia Cathedral – Wiki page
A stone’s throw from the arched Plaza Mayor we come across one of the last Gothic buildings built in España, the Cathedral. Building began on it in the 16th century, during the late Gothic period. Some parts of the old cathedral, such as its flamboyant Gothic cloister, the choir stalls and the main façade are worthy of special attention. The San Frutos door, the apse, the main altarpiece (the Baroque-style work of Sabatini) and the Neo-classical area behind the choir, the work of Ventura Rodríguez, are more recent features. The smaller chapels house sculptures by Juan de Juni and Gregoria Fernández. Names, indeed, that are asssociated with some of the great Spanish Baroque and Neo-classical works. The Cathedral Museum houses an important collection of religious art that has come down to us from several historical periods. (Spain.info)

Alcazar de Segovia (Castle) – Wiki Page
It is one of the most distinctive castle-palaces in Spain by virtue of its shape – like the bow of a ship. The Alcázar was originally built as a fortress but has served as a royal palace, a state prison, a Royal Artillery College and a military academy since then. (Wikipedia)

Oh wonderful Madrid. The city that I’ve actually only spent a half day in. Considering I’ve seen a greater proportion of spain than my own country this is saying a lot.
We spent much of our time in the Madrid area outside of Madrid in a town called Alcala de Hernares (some pictures from this post will be of Alcala)
But we rode into the outskirts of Madrid and took the Metro into downtown. We were there until it go pretty dark and then had to head back.
(Above) is a random plaza, I’m sure it one of the many many plazas in Madrid as can be found in all the European cities.
Nicely organized and ready for dinner to start up and the crowds to arrive.

Street performers… I love musicians who play on the streets. I must say I’m not as fond of peddlers who happen to play an instument. I got to talk to the guy with the guitar and he was totally an artist enjoying his time playing for passerbys.

This is a shot of Alcala from earlier in the morning… man how I wish I could have shot a bunch of this scene… it’s just too perfect. And now the question is what were they carrying?

We went and visited the LDS temple in Madrid. The grounds were wonderful and the building and the grounds were so different from most of the rest of the stuff we saw. Where most of the rest of the city was so old along with the buildings the LDS temple was so pristine and calm and clean. I suppose that’s what they’re going for.

HIGHLIGHTS
4yrs ago today I drove from Bordeaux France to Madrid Spain. Along the way we made a couple stops, most pominently in Burgos Spain.
Enjoy the second day of pictures and keep on looking forward to 80 more… some not so plentiful as this (but some more)

We drove a lot that day but in the end we made it to Madrid from Barcelona.
But the highlight was just before sunset we spend the evening checking out BURGOS, Spain.
Lots of people and lots of stone.

The pictures were taken by Scott Jarvie – See his photoblog here
Tis I that will be writing this set of posts.
REMASTERED
The release is an exciting opportunity to go back through the pictures 4yrs later with lots more selecting and editing skills.
Going through the pictures with a faster computer and a better eye to bring back what I saw even with simple entry level lenses.
The purpose of these posts are to help you envision europe, and to enjoy beautiful pictures.
I’m not a photojournalist, I make no apologies for editing the pictures, I want them to insire an appreciation for the location to portray my vision for that area.
Thus these pictures are remastered. Which is probably the most exciting part of the project.
