The aloe is a flowering succulent plant, meaning it stores water in the leaves. The Aloe grows close to the ground, with flowers growing on a spike. The flowers are similar in appearance to those of the Ocotillo, a long stick-like plant that is only green after a rain.
The most commonly known is the “aloe vera,” or “true aloe” variety. They vary in color from grey to bright-green and are sometimes striped.
Various species of Aloe have been used throughout history as herbal medicine by humans. Today the gel found in the leaves is used to soothe minor burns and various skin conditions.
